Why I Dumped Oshiomhole, Supported Obaseki – Dep Gov

The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has said he supported Governor Godwin Obaseki in the September 19, 2020 governorship election to end godfatherism in the state.

Recall that Shaibu had refused to back his former benefactor and former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, in his feud against Obaseki.

The Deputy governor gave his reasons while speaking at a reception organised by the out-gone local government chairmen in the state shortly after their thanksgiving service at St. Paul Catholic Church.

According to the former House of Representatives member, some people had to collaborate to save Edo people’s future.

“We said there must be a change and that godfathers must be brought to their knees and people must decide who leads them while leaders must be accountable to the people and not a few godfathers,” he said.

Meanwhile, Obaseki has insisted that he holds no personal grudges against Adams Oshiomhole.

Naija News reports that Obaseki disclosed this to newsmen in Auchi, Etsako-West LGA of the state, at the centenary birthday Thanksgiving of Msgr. Thomas Oleghe and 18th Canonical Erection Anniversary of the Diocese of Auchi held at Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Auchi.

Obaseki, who exchanged greetings with an elbow-bump in compliance with COVID-19 preventive protocols, with his predecessor, said he only dislikes Oshiomhole’s style of politics.

“I don’t have anything personal against Oshiomhole. I may not like his politics, but he has not done anything personal against me. We all are interacting with the interest of the country and the development of our community at heart,” he said.
