The Los Angeles Football Club will open the 2021 season April 17 at home against new expansion club Austin FC.

The game will air at 2:30 p.m. on Fox 11.

With Gov. Gavin Newsom recently announcing some fans will be allowed into stadiums as of April 1, it will be first time since last March that LAFC will be able to play in front of at least a portion of its fans.

The club said it would be releasing a health and safety protocol for fans in the near future.

The Galaxy will open the season April 18 at Inter Miami, which is owned by former Galaxy star David Beckham. The teams were scheduled to face each other March 14 last season, but the game was canceled when the league shut down due to the coronavirus.

The noon game, to be televised on Channel 7, will be the Galaxy’s first trip to Florida since the MLS is Back tournament in July that restarted the season.

The Galaxy’s home opener will be the following Sunday on April 25 against the New York Red Bulls (2:30 p.m., FS1). The Galaxy said earlier that their ticket plan “includes giving LA Galaxy Season Ticket Members the first opportunity to return to attending our matches in person.”

Major League Soccer announced the home openers for all 27 teams Wednesday. The complete regular season schedule is expected within a couple of weeks.

The regular season begins the weekend of April 16-18.
