President Joe Biden, first lady Jill Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are planning a travel and media blitz in the coming weeks to sell the $1.9 trillion COVID relief plan to the American people.
The House is expected to pass the package on Wednesday after the Senate approved it this weekend, sending it to Biden for his signature.
Biden will speak about the benefits of his American Rescue Plan in a prime time speech on Thursday before he embarks on a cross-country campaign to tout its benefits – stimulus checks, money to reopen schools, and more funds for vaccines – and reassure the American people life is returning to normal.
White House chief of staff Ron Klain said Tuesday evening the travel plans are in the works.
‘We’re going to go to the country. We’re gonna take a couple weeks to really explain the plan,’ he said in an interview with Punchbowl News.

Cabinet officials will also join Vice President Kamala Harris and others in touting the benefits of the American Rescue Plan
It’s an all-hands on deck effort.
In addition to Biden, the first lady and the vice president, Cabinet officials will join in on selling the plan, Axios noted. And Cedric Richmond, director of the White House Office of Public Engagement, is mobilizing outside groups to do its part.
Biden has said over and over again he doesn’t want to repeat what he believes was a mistake by the Obama administration in not selling its 2009 stimulus to the public.
‘We didn’t adequately explain what we had done. Barack was so modest,’ Biden told House Democrats last week. ‘I kept saying, ‘Tell people what we did.’ He said, ‘We don’t have time. I’m not going to take a victory lap.’ And we paid a price for it, ironically, for that humility.’
A new CNN poll found that 61% support the COVID relief plan, which includes $1,400 direct payments to most Americans, $350 billion in aid to state and local governments, an expansion of the child tax credit and increased funding for vaccine distribution.
Biden, later this month, also will hold his first press conference and the administration is working on some type of COVID-safe joint address to Congress.

One thing the president won’t do is put his name on the stimulus checks as Donald Trump did on COVID-19 relief payments sent out last year.
‘Well, we are doing everything in our power to expedite the payments and not delay them, which is why the president’s name will not appear on the memo line of this round of stimulus checks,’ said White House press secretary Jen Psaki on Tuesday. ‘This is not about him. This is about the American people getting relief.’
