Imo Crisis: ‘Our Party Can Never Jeopardize Safety And Lives Of Citizens’ – PDP Fires APC

The Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said it can never take actions that will in any way jeopardize the safety and lives of the people that voted them into power.

Naija News reports that the umbrella party made the submission while reacting to a recent publication by the All Progressive Congress, APC, which blamed the opposition for the current security situation in the state.

Earlier on Thursday, October 7, the State Information Commissioner, Hon Declan Mbadiwe Emelumba, went on air to lampoon PDP for the current status of the state, most especially in the area of insecurity.

Reacting to the Information Commissioner’s claim in a communique made available to newsmen on Friday, PDP asked the ruling party to provide evidence for its claims or apologize to the party within the space of a week.

PDP reiterated that its party members are law-abiding who also care for the wellness of the people.

The opposition party warned that it will no longer take such hateful allegations by Uzodinma and his aides lightly again as we will be compelled to challenge the APC government legally.

The statement read: “Uzodinma should be reminded that PDP leaders are law-abiding citizens who recognize the well-being of the people of the State as a top priority as demonstrated by the short-lived Rebuild PDP government led by Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha. Consequently, PDP leaders can never embark on actions capable of jeopardizing the safety and lives of Imolites.

“As a virile and credible opposition party, Uzodinma should be told that no amount of intimidation and repression can prevent Imo PDP and its leaders from pushing determinedly alternative views and holding him accountable to the people as provided by the law.

“Consequently, we are challenging Uzodinma or any official of his government to furnish Imo people with proofs to substantiate their baseless claims that Imo PDP leaders are aiding or abetting any group to unleash violence on Imo masses or were behind the scandalous jail-break; if not they should within one week publicly apologize to Imo PDP.”
