While Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales chart is meant to include many different styles of music performed in countless languages and from any number of countries, more often than not it is ruled by K-pop acts, as quite a few of them have large fan bases in the U.S. Every week, a handful of new cuts debut or older favorites return if it’s particularly quiet, but this time around, the ranking is flush with titles that weren’t featured on the list last period, and they all come from some of the most beloved South Korean and Japanese musicians in the music industry.
On this week’s World Digital Song Sales chart, 13 singles either debut or return to the ranking, refreshing just over half of all the spots on the 25-rung list. While not entirely rare, it’s not common to see half of a Billboard chart turn over from week-to-week, and it shows there was a flurry of activity in that space within a very small period of time.
Leading the way when looking at new cuts is singer and rapper I.M, who is best known for his work with the K-pop/pop band Monsta X. The popular figure just recently embarked on a solo venture (though he didn’t leave the group) with his first full-length on his own, Duality. Five tracks from the project arrive on this week’s World Digital Song Sales chart, giving him control over 20% of the entire roster.
BTS, the act that almost always dominates the World Digital Song Sales chart, see three beloved cuts return to the list, including one which re-enters the race at No. 1. The septet doesn’t debut anything new this time around, but they do still manage to claim the most real estate, with six charting cuts.
