A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has restrained the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from suspending its National Vice-Chairman (South-South), Dan Orbih.

Recall that the Edo North Senatorial leadership of the party had passed a vote of no confidence on Orbih and suspended the former Edo PDP chairman for anti-party activities.

On Thursday, the court granted an order of interim injunction restraining PDP at any level by itself, its servant, agents, officers or others from suspending Orbih pending the hearing of and determination of the motion on notice.

The court also ruled that the PDP at any level should not recognise or act upon the resolution by Edo North Senatorial leadership of the party which purportedly suspended Orbih.

It held that the order shall be served on PDP forthwith and the motion on notice filed on October 13 is hereby set down to October 21 for hearing.

Naija News reports that the Edo PDP has been embroiled in crisis since the defection of Governor Godwin Obaseki to the party in 2020.

According to reports, the crisis rocking the party has heightened following the refusal of the state leadership to accommodate Obaseki’s supporters who defected to the party from the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Sources had revealed that Governor Obaseki had delayed inaugurating his cabinet in a bid to get the state PDP to absolve his supporters from the APC.

Rumours had recently emerged that some party leaders led by Chief Dan Orbih had asked the State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, to resign before former APC members will be fully admitted.
